hello welcome to arts in action Community Middle School we are located in the heart of East Los Angeles on the corner of Whittier Boulevard and Kern Avenue and we've recently moved into our brand new campus in the summer of 2020 this is our front desk in the main entrance area we are fully set up to ensure the safety of all staff students and visitors are front office staff were always available to answer questions and provide assistance for anything you may need now let's start our virtual tour of our brand new Middle School campus these are first floor our priority is the safety of our students and staff especially during the pandemic all of our hallways are currently designated for one-way traffic our first stop is one of our 6th grade classrooms cuz you can be a classroom apparently set up for covid-19 normally each classroom setup to house in average of 25 students per classroom each classroom has a teacher and an assistant teacher for 6th grade students have the same teacher for math science and the same teacher for ELA social studies students belong to a cohort teacher we believe that this gives students an easier transition to middle school and allows for relationship and community-building moving directly across the hall we have our 7th and 8th grade classrooms students in the seventh and eighth grade have a different teacher for the subject. behind a student ratio and small class item supportive classrooms and staff allows it to meet the individual needs of each child can also be a tough subject for some students but our teachers great job with gasoline math lesson and providing small group and individual support to all students on a daily basis our next stop on our tour is our music class from our music class from the cover of variety of areas of music and listen to the line to the Visual and Performing standard also known as by our students learn how to read music and compose music and even learn about music production and behind-the-scenes knowledge about music management and promotion students can also find out instruments and a small group lessons with their talented music teacher we have one of our sixth grade ELA classes are encouraged students to use their skills to have their voices heard through reading and writing students real-world events social justice and their own so emotional learning moving along on our tour we arrive at our library or library has rapidly grown over the years and now how's your dad's in the book students are able to come to our libraries check out any book of interested we allowed in the library can you book all the time we want students to develop a lifelong love of reading that's why students can request a book to be ordered for the library if we don't already have any stock we also have staff has been to the library to students with books collection and matching with the reading book my library in shop at our Dojo store students are in dojo points daily for a variety of items such as attending participation and exhibiting or School Street values and more they can then cash in their points for different our next stop is one of my personal favorite this is our art room and is one of our Pride and Joy is here at our connection students get to work Hands-On as they learn multiple different mediums of are some areas they sell you this year are pencil and paper drawing painting paper mache graphic design and finding their own students also get to hear from professional artists and visit Art Museum also incorporate social emotional learning social justice project and art therapy in our art class is our special education department bus team of special education teachers and paraprofessionals we both push into classroom to provide accommodation as well as full season 2 out for the small individual Ice Cube our goal is to ensure that all students feel like they belong in our connection connect students with disabilities are from support they need to be successful in milk this is our eating and play area as you can see we have a brand new basketball court for a student to use during their p and recreational activities we have a variety of sports equipment for students to use during PE after school we set up our heating area to also allow classes to take place outside when the weather is nice this now leads us to the end of our tour I hope you enjoy your walk you over a brand new art in action Community Middle School and welcome you to schedule an interesting tour if you have any I would like more information on her school and all of the programs please don't hesitate to reach out to our school team we look forward to working with you and your child
