Arts in Action Community Charter Schools submitted renewal petitions in September. The outcome of this process will determine whether our schools stay open for five more years. If you live or work in Los Angeles, please help support us by emailing the LAUSD board members and asking them to approve our renewal petitions. Please email before the LAUSD Board Meeting on November 24th.

We encourage you to write your own personal message to the board. You can also use the message template provided. Don't forget to add your name at the bottom of your email!

To the Board of LAUSD,

I am sending this letter in support of the renewals for:

-Arts in Action Community Charter School
-Arts in Action Community Middle School

Arts in Action Community Charter Schools are two small charter schools in the East Los Angeles neighborhood. Both schools serve a population that is over 97% socioeconomically disadvantaged and Latinx. Both schools serve a higher percentage of English Language Learners than neighborhood district schools and the same percentage of students with disabilities. Arts in Action is not funded by corporations.

I am supporting Arts in Action Community Charter Schools because:

-Arts in Action has strong academic outcomes in ELA and math, particularly for students who are English Language Learners and students with disabilities
-Arts in Action consistently outperforms the district and the state in math 
-Arts in Action has strong teacher retention
-Arts in Action has many parent workshops and opportunities for collaboration
-Arts in Action has lower rates of chronic absenteeism than the district
-Arts in Action has and continues to serve thousands of meals to the communities of East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights during the COVID-19 pandemic, including families of district and other charter schools

In addition, Arts in Action offers a unique academic program.

Arts in Action believes that all students should have access to the arts and that the arts can be used to communicate, connect, and collaborate with each other and the rest of the world. Arts in Action also believes in the importance of social justice, and in empowering our students to become activists who can address inequity in their communities and in the world.

In a time of uncertainty and budget cuts, schools like Arts in Action are needed more than ever. Please consider the input of the community and support the renewals for both schools.
