Hello! My name is Yvonne Beaver. I'm really excited to be part of the Arts in Action family. Growing up, I lived and went to school in a low-socioeconomic status (SES) community, and I was one of those kids who was not expected to go far in life because of the area I lived in. Having grown up in a low-SES community I can completely relate to my students. and I believe that it is extremely important to let them know that they matter, and that they too can make it far in life despite the area they live in. I believe that all kids are entitled to quality education, and it’s extremely important to get our kids to the same level of academic performance that their socioeconomically higher peers are at.
I studied sociology at Cerritos Community College and California State University of Long Beach. I received an Associate of Arts in Sociology from Cerritos, and a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from CSULB. GO BEACH! Currently I am enrolled in a district intern program and working on my teaching credential. I have ten years experience working in school settings. I started as an after school tutor and sports coach, then moved on to become a campus aide and assistant teacher in the PE department. Currently I am now working in the SPED department working as a paraprofessional, with one year experience of being a case manager and resource teacher.
My greatest joy in life though is being a mother to two awesome kids who motivate me to always be my best and do my best. I make it my goal to work hard every day to be a leading example and role model for both my kids and my work kids.
